Going on our 4th year!

The New Years has passed and we have begun what is hopefully going to be a grander year for us all. A special event for me is coming, well it is pretty much a special event for anyone who loves LIC like I do.  LargeInCharge's Birthday!  In March this year the 3rd year of LargeInCharge comes to an end.  We will begin our 4th year!  Back in 2004 when I started LargeInCharge it was a way to do what I love... write.  A way to combine my talents of graphic art, web design, leadership, community interests and of course management.  I wanted to bring information to people and hopefully start a base for business in the future.

I had someone who was my partner back then,  He didn't see LargeInCharge the same way I did.  But the agreement to work together to create something that could reach people was the same.  That first year it was amazing see LIC grown and change.  Hitting our anniversary and expand.  Somewhere along the way he needed to do something else.  I am not sure what was in his head, but slowly he left in small ways, detaching until one day he wasn't there anymore.  Still LargeInCharge had to grown had to continue.  It was my baby that I gave birth to.  I had to move on and realize that the gift of us coming together for that time helped to make LargeInCharge come to be.  He gave me the reason to think up LIC, But I made it come to life.  Now he had to go on to a different future a different path.  I wish him well.

Now the small LIC newsletter has begun its change last year into the title of Magazine.  More expansion, more growth, more readers.  More for people to depend on, and I am here trying to make it happen.  Give something unique and different, something that the plus sized community needs.  I sit back and I feel so happy.  Happy with emails I receive, connections I make, people I meet.  It makes me proud to have put all this work into something that people appreciate.

I am hoping to continue to bring you all great articles.  I send my love with you and I thank you all for your support and love.

Papi's Peace

This month's Article:

Papi goes to Chuck E. Cheese

Papi goes to Chuck E. Cheese

Papi’s official designation is single with no children. For those that KNOW, I have 2 “Faux” kids . . . my nephews Mark and TJ. We are VERY close and I am often told that while my “little” brother Tim is their father, that I am their mother. (I have JUST now started taking that as a compliment).
Well, they are both aspiring basketball players and play on Tim’s team, the Suns of the YMCA’s Youth Basketball Association. They play every Saturday. After games they like for me to take them out to eat. It is our little ritual. Well, this Saturday Mark requested one of his favorite spots . . . Chuck E. Cheese (http://www.chuckecheese.com), where a kid can be a kid. For a brief description: children, games, pizza, pop. Enough said.

I know MANY a parent that avoids Chuck E. Cheese (CEC) like the plague. The mayhem and madness is a little too much for most adults, but I basically do damn near anything for my guys, so I suck it up. I even went so far as to join the Chuck E. Cheese e-mail club, so I get all kinds of deals, specials, and coupons. I ALWAYS go armed with my coupons. Since every trip is SUCH an experience I felt it was MORE than enough to share with my family. So, this is part rant, part information, part comedy routine, part social commentary. A lil’ something different for Papi’s Peace.

Birthday Parties
I don’t have an almanac handy, but I would bet my mortgage that this is the #1 spot for little people birthday parties. Oh my, was the zodiac shining on us Saturday. I saw commercialism at the HIGHEST height. The cakes and balloons and plates and napkins and tablecloths. Dora the Explorer, Spongebob, Rugrats, Superman, Spiderman, Snow White, Mickey Mouse, Betty Boop (I am STILL wondering if she is appropriate for a 6-year old girl’s birthday theme), Looney Tunes, Winnie the Pooh . . . and I could just go on. If you did not have somebody’s image on your birthday stuff you were a child of ridicule. Poor baby.

But before these shrines to cartoon characters were set-up the battle for table space began. While CEC doesn’t take reservations, they have “Reserved” placards on tables EVERYWHERE. I cannot repeat some of the words I heard and names I heard people called behind the battle and jockeying for tables. How often management became involved. How many F-You’s could I hear? How many fights were about to break out? How many complaints over the seating system could one person hear? I lost count, but everyone seemed to get tables. Eventually.

Did I mention the birthday cakes? What do a bunch of hyperactive kids running around playing games, crawling through tubes, and collecting tokens and tickets REALLY need? Birthday cake! My blood sugar escalated just LOOKING at all the birthday cake around the place. Looked at one table and what did they have to wash down their double chocolate cake? Sunny Delight! Now I know they allow you to bring in cake and ice cream, but I wondered if CEC really appreciated gallons of Sunny D. being served instead of people buying their pop. THEN I couldn’t help but think that maybe some milk would be a better fit for these sugared up kids. But who am I anyway?

I won’t even BEGIN to discuss all the different NAMES I heard these children called. Colors, days of the week, food, geographic locations, cars, and MANY celebrities (I PROMISE you this woman kept calling her son “Mike Jones”. I hope his name isn’t Mike Jones Robinson. But who am I anyway?)

The Clothes
First let’s talk about the baby clothes. Oh the days of Osk Kosh B'Gosh and Garanimals are LONG gone. ALL I saw were Sean John, Phat Farm, Baby Phat, Rocawear, Akademiks, and APPLE BOTTOMS!!?? On a seven year old? I guess Papi is SO old fashioned.

But I was REALLY fascinated by the “adult” clothing . . .

One dude had on a t-shirt that said “GROWN ASS MAN!”. Besides the fact that he didn’t look like he was, and the fact that wearing that t-shirt at CEC may indicate that he wasn’t, but if you feel the NEED to let people know that, maybe there are other things you need to be doing.

Tupac’s HUMUNGOUS face was EVERYWHERE! I saw at least seven pieces of clothes with Tupac’s face on them. But not just across the chest, or the stomach, or the back . . . but his face went from one shoulder to the other. One sleeve to the other. Top to bottom. Side to side. Like no matter where you went Tupac was looking at you! It was kinda eerie.

Did you know that glitter and bling were VERY popular on clothes? On a couple of those Tupac shirts, the rings and chains and jewelry he had on were encrusted with glitter and rhinestones and artificial bling. Shirts with money and dollar signs had golden glistening glitter and bling. Girls booties and back pockets were encrusted in glitter and rhinestones and bling. Shoes. Hats. Belts. Eyebrows. BLING! How do you wash a blinged out BIG face Tupac shirt? Do you send it to the dry cleaners?

When did wearing clothes that fit stop being important? Dude was 5’7” and 135 lbs. His shirt was a 3X and his jeans were a 46 x 32. His hat was a 7 ľ. And his clothes were kinda snug compared to the guy he was with. And then we have the ladies wearing leotard tops, short shirts, and low riders that were TOO low and TOO short . . . tight enough to cut off circulation and better suited for a 50 Cent video then her daughter’s 10th birthday party. But who am I anyway?

The coolest thing I saw was a guy wearing a skeleton jacket. Do you remember Slim Goodbody? This jacket reminded me of him. It was a complete skeleton from waist to neck on the front, back, sides, and arms of the jacket. Real cool. He got a LOT of attention. Girls loved him. (Guess I could put this in my How to Mack writings. Wear a skeleton jacket!)

I don’t want to offend anyone (like I haven’t already), but I don’t like furry boots. You know how some trends come like wildfire, and you accept them until they die? I can’t accept furry boots. Stop wearing them. Please. According to where you live you may not even know what furry boots are. Well, I am from Chicago, and there are furry boots here like two piece bikinis in South Beach. There are furry boots here like Peachtree streets and lanes and avenues in Atlanta. There are furry boots here like freeways in L.A. There are furry boots here like there are places to gamble in Las Vegas. You feel me? Fur at the top of the boot. Levels of fur. Layers of fur. Fur then straps then more fur. Chinchilla fur. Rabbit fur. Mink. Dog. Fur here, fur there, fur everywhere. If I had 50 cents for every pair of furry boots I saw, I would have been dictating my Peace this month and I would have had it in to Raqui three days earlier and kept her on schedule! (Sorry Raqui. Trying to find a way to convert my disdain for furry boots into $$$!) But who am I anyway?

Various Sights and Sounds
CEC has a stage show, where their characters form a band (as life size puppets onstage) and sing and play instruments, entertain and crack jokes. During breaks and intermissions the lights go off onstage and the puppets are inactive. I know I kept hearing drumming during the intermissions . . . I later saw that kids were taking turns running onstage and beating drums, playing the piano, strumming the guitar, and even beating up Chuck E. himself. I think it was the chocolate cake and Sunny D.
I heard someone say, “That’s not my baby daddy’s son.” Maybe it was just me, but it sounded so crazy. But who am I anyway?

I saw the MOST pregnant woman I have EVER seen in my life. She was about 4’11” and 98 lbs (size 0) without the baby. The baby prolly weighs as much as she did. Her stomach was the size of a FULL watermelon and her belly button was as big as a plum. Her girls kept telling her that the baby was going 2 come out taller and heavier than she was. It was amazing that she could wear clothes.

I witnessed the BEST example of stereotypes and not judging a book by the cover. The table behind me kept talking about Big Rick. How he was late. When is Big Rick going to get there? Where is Big Rick? As he walked into the dining area someone said, there he is. Big Rick was about 6’7”, dark complexion, long braids, earring, tattoo on his neck, gold tooth . . . thugged out. From the distance, as crowded as it was, all you could see was from his shoulders up. Looked like he had on a backpack backwards. As he got closer you could see the backpack was a baby carrier and a beautiful chocolate little boy was on his chest. Later found out that was Little Ricky. Big Rick has total custody of Little Ricky and was late because he had just gotten off work. Big Rick had a full and complete baby bag and was very proficient with changing diapers, very timely with the bottle and showed an ENORMOUS love for his son. He KEPT telling people at the table to stop cursing around the kids. I laughed every time one of his boys called him “Thug Daddy”.

Big Rick really capped off my entire adventure at Chuck E. Cheese. As wild and crazy as it was, both the underlying and heavily prevalent theme was LOVE. Sons and daughters. Brothers and sisters. Mothers and fathers. Aunts and uncles. Nieces and nephews. Friends, families, and loved ones all showing love, happiness, and support for the children. It was beautiful. It was the reason I was there.
As we left, MANY hours later, Mark asked if we could come back next week. I told him not until next month.

I can only handle so much love.
See you next time!!
Papi loves you!
Peace!!!

Good 4 U Food

Recipes for Good... Healthy Food

By: Xander - The Food Dude

Make it a 2-2-1

Ah, love is in the air.  Spring is just around the corner. February has got to be one of the greatest months of the year.  As one marketer said, “Before Valentine’s Day was created, the most exciting thing about February was President’s Day.  I don’t know about you but going home to you significant other and saying “Honey, it’s president’s day, and I wanted you to know I love you.”   That’s about as sexy as proposing to a woman while getting a prostate exam.  But I digress.

Since love in the air this month, I wanted to get you a variety of recipes that has all the makings of a veritable love potion # 9.  Gentlemen, the ladies dig on it when you get down in a culinary sense.  Remember (for those of you who will take the plunge and cook for your loves) that it’s all in the details.  Tablecloth, polished silverware, crystal clear stemware, table and plate presentation, and candle light.  Let’s say with that, even a Big Mac and Fries would set a woman’s heart a pitter-pat.

Details are the place where you distinguish yourself as being a hero rather than a zero.  It is the least amount that takes the most time.  That time is well spent when you score the home run.  I never have seen anyone ask a world champion if they thought it was all worth the time.  At the top of the game, it’s “ALL” worth it.  But that’s when you see the final result.  Those are what everybody sees. The details of the effort, that’s what we see after the fact.  It’s also what our loves see.  They’ve seen the big picture, now it’s time to show them infinite care we regard them with.  In essence, it is in the detail where you show that you’re committed and willing to take the extra effort to make someone else happy.  All it takes is a little fore thought and creativeness, and you can rock their spirit, hearts and minds.

There are particular food that have been noted as useful for increasing natural urges.  While testing has never yielded anything conclusive, I believe in utilizing every advantage that God has granted us.  The following is a list of food substance that have been noted in lore to increase our sexual desires.  Use at your own peril or pleasure.

Aniseed
A very popular aphrodisiac with many culinary uses. It has been used as an aphrodisiac since the Greeks and the Romans, who believed aniseed had special powers. Sucking on the seeds is said to increases your desire.

Asparagus
Given it's phallic shape, asparagus is frequently enjoyed as an aphrodisiac food.   Feed your lover boiled or steamed spears for a sensuous experience.
The Vegetarian Society suggests "eating asparagus for three days for the most powerful affect".

Almond
A symbol of fertility throughout the ages.  The aroma is thought to induce passion in a female. Try serving Marzipan (almond paste) in the shapes of fruits for a special after-dinner treat.

Arugula
Arugula or "rocket" seed has been documented as an aphrodisiac since the first century A.D.  This ingredient was added to grated orchid bulbs and parsnips and also combined with pine nuts and pistachios. Arugula greens are frequently used in salads and pasta.

Avocado
The Aztecs called the avocado tree "Ahuacuatl which translated means "testicle tree". The ancients thought the fruit hanging in pairs on the tree resembled the male's testicles.  This is a delicious fruit with a sensuous texture.   Serve in slices with a small amount of Balsamic vinegar and freshly ground pepper.

Bananas
The banana flower has a marvelous phallic shape and is partially responsible for popularity of the banana as an aphrodisiac food. An Islamic myth tells the tale that after Adam and Eve succumbed to the "Apple" they started covering their "nudity" with banana leaves rather than fig. From a more practical standpoint bananas are rich in potassium and B vitamins, necessities for sex hormone production.

Basil (sweet basil)
Is said to stimulate the sex drive and boost fertility. It is also said to produce a general sense of well being for body and mind.

Broccoli Rabe (And Other Mustard Greens)
The ground seeds of various plants in the brassica family were believed to increase virility. In the case of broccoli rabe its more likely a myth created to get people to eat this bitter vegetable.

Chocolate
The Aztecs referred to chocolate "nourishment of the Gods". Chocolate contains chemicals thought to effect neurotransmitters in the brain and a related substance to caffeine called theobromine. Chocolate contains more antioxidant (cancer preventing enzymes) than does red wine.  The secret for passion is to combine the two.  Try a glass of Cabernet with a bit of dark chocolate for a sensuous treat or let us temp you with our recipe for
Chocolate Espresso Pots de creme.

Carrots
Another good reason to eat carrots--believed to be a stimulant to the male. The phallus shaped carrot has been associated with stimulation since ancient times and was used by early Middle Eastern royalty to aid seduction. High vitamins and beta-carotene. Perhaps a justification for a piece of carrot cake?

Coffee
Caffeine is a well-know stimulant but remember, too much and it becomes a depressant.   Serve small amounts of rich dark coffee in special little demitasse cups.   Coffee stimulates both the body and the mind so partake of a little in preparation for an "all-nighter".

Coriander (Cilantro seed)
The book of The Arabian nights tells a tale of a merchant who had been childless for 40 years and but was cured by a concoction that included coriander.  That book is over 1000 years old so the history of coriander as an aphrodisiac dates back far into history. Cilantro was also know to be used as an "appetite" stimulant.

Figs
An open fig is thought to emulate the female sex organs and traditionally thought of as sexual stimulant.  A man breaking open a fig and eating it in front of his lover is a powerful erotic act. Serve fresh Black Mission figs in a cool bowl of water as it is done in Italy and be sure to eat with your fingers!

Garlic
The 'heat' in garlic is said to stir sexual desires.  Make sure you and your partner share it together.  Garlic has been used for centuries to cure everything from the common cold to heart ailments. This is a good time for moderation. Enjoy a pasta with a lightly garlicky sauce and it and lead up to something spicy in the bedroom later.

Ginger
Ginger root raw, cooked or crystallized is a stimulant to the circulatory system. Perhaps a stir-fry with freshly grated ginger can stir something spicy up in the bedroom later.

Honey
Many medicines in Egyptian times were based on honey including cures for sterility and impotence.  Medieval seducers plied their partners with Mead, a fermented drink made from honey.  Lovers on their "Honeymoon" drank mead and it was thought to s "sweeten" the marriage.

Liquorice (licorice)
The Chinese have used licorice for medicinal purposes since ancient times. The essence of the
Glycyrrhiza glabra (licorice) plan, glycrrhizin,  is 50 time sweeter than sugar.  Chewing on bits of licorice root is said to enhance love and lust. It is particularly stimulating to woman.

Mustard
Believed to stimulate the sexual glands and increase desire. Prepare a tenderloin roast (filet mignon) for two with a mustard and peppercorn sauce.

Nutmeg
Nutmeg was highly prized by Chinese women as an aphrodisiac.  In quantity nutmeg can produce a hallucinogenic effect.  A light sprinkling of the spice in a warm pumpkin soup can help spice up your evening.

Oysters
Oysters were documented as a aphrodisiac food by the Romans in the second century A.D as mentioned in a satire by Juvenal. He described the wanton ways of women after ingesting wine and eating "giant oysters".  An additional hypotheses is that the oyster resembles the "female" genitals. In reality oysters are a very nutritious and high in protein.

Pine Nuts
Zinc is a key mineral necessary to maintain male potency and pine nuts are rich in zinc.   Pine nuts have been used to stimulate the libido as far back as Medieval times.   Serve pine nut cookies with a dark espresso for a stimulating dessert.

Pineapple
Rich in vitamin C and and is used in the homeopathic treatment for impotence. Add a spear to a sweet Rum drink for a tasty prelude to an evening of passion.

Raspberries and Strawberries
Perfect foods for hand feeding your lover. "Both invite love and are described in erotic literature as fruit nipples" Both are high in vitamin C and make a sweet light dessert.

Truffles
The Greeks and the Romans considered the rare Truffle to be an aphrodisiac.  The musky scent is said to stimulate and sensitize the skin to touch.

Vanilla
The scent and flavor of vanilla is believed to increase lust.  According to the Australian Orchid Society, "Old Totonac lore has it that Xanat, the young daughter of the Mexican fertility goddess, loved a Totonac youth. Unable to marry him due to her divine nature, she transformed herself into a plant that would provide pleasure and happiness."  Fill tall Champagne glasses to the rim and add a vanilla bean for a heady, bubbly treat.

Wine
A glass or two of wine can greatly enhance a romantic interlude.  Wine relaxes and helps to stimulate our senses.  Drinking wine can be an erotic experience.  Let your eyes feast on the color of the liquid.  Caress the glass, savor the taste on your lips.  Do remember that excessive alcohol will make you too drowsy for the after-dinner romance.  A moderate amount of wine has been said to "arouse" but much more than that amount with have the reverse affect.

Now that we know what ingredients we have to work with, below are a few recipes to utilize these components.  Get creative use all of them, or just a few, just remember to get some roses.  And of all the things listed above is that next to diamonds, chocolate is a girl’s best friend.

The word Sensual has its bases in the Senses.  It is to excite the senses, to have them blossom into full life.  Cooking and eating can be a very sensual act.  If at all possible, feed each other. with a little attitude and lot of eye contact, you'll have more fun than you can imagine! Don't forget presentation. Sprinkle flower petals or pieces of fresh fruits on your serving dishes. The details make all the difference   Seafood can be messy, so place a shallow dish with water and a slice of lemon next to each plate. Sprinkle the top with carnation petals and dip in as needed during your feast... After the meal, roll up two moistened hand towels and stick them in the microwave for 20 seconds. Unroll one and slowly wash your companion's hands. Give the treatment you like to get: you're next!

May love be in every aspect of your lives, to inspire, to create, to love and be love, that’s what it means to be human.  That’s what it means to have a soul.

Until next time, take care, love long, God Bless you all, and may all your hungers be fulfilled.

In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter with the sugar and add the pecan halves. Stir to coat, and turn often until the pecans are hot and crisp around the edges. Remove from pan. Cool.

In a bowl, mix together the lettuce and apple slices; add a splash of olive oil and the lemon juice, and toss to coat. Salt and pepper to taste. Toss in the pecans.

How to Serve:

Arrange the salad on a plate and sprinkle the blue cheese over the top.

Experiment:
For a heartier salad or a light meal, add grilled chicken or steak.

Sizzling Scallops with Smoky Bacon and Onion

Description:

Scallops are one of our favorite foods, because they're so easy to cook and yet so decadent. Fresh, fat scallops are tender with a hint of chewiness and a sweet aftertaste, perfect for pairing with stronger flavors like bacon, which we've done in the dish below. Don't use just any onion; the Maui is mellow and lacks the harsh bite of other onions, so be sure to use that one if you can find it.

Ingredients:

6 large scallops (recommended) or 12 small scallops
1 small Sweet Maui onion, chopped
1/2 pound high-quality smoked bacon, chopped
Extra Virgin olive oil
2 tblsp. sweet cream butter
1/2 cup white wine
1/2 lemon
Freshly cracked black pepper
Salt
Finely chopped Italian parsley (to garnish)

Prepare:

In a small pan, sauté bacon and onion together until bacon is crisp and onion is soft and golden. Remove from heat and drain excess fat and bacon drippings.

In another skillet, melt butter until hot, but not scorching. Add scallops and sear on both sides until brown. Squeeze lemon juice over the top to create a rich caramel colored crust. Remove scallops to a plate, and deglaze the skillet with butter and wine. Add the bacon and onion, then salt and pepper to taste.

How to Serve:

Arrange the scallops on a plate, and pour the warm bacon-onion mixture over the top of them. Sprinkle with finely chopped parsley to garnish.

Crab-Stuffed Mushrooms

Description:

The little cavity made when the stem is popped off a mushroom just begs to be filled with something scrumptious. Instead of the usual spinach or cheese, we've created a creamy crab filling, seasoned with shallots and fresh thyme, thus making these mushrooms a sensual treat . Be sure to eat them with your fingers!

Ingredients:

10 large white mushrooms, cleaned, stemmed and dried
1 tblsp. butter
1 large clove garlic, finely chopped
1 shallot, finely chopped
1 handful of fresh thyme, finely chopped
1/4 c. grated Pecorino cheese
1/3 c. creme fraiche
4 oz. fresh crab meat
Extra Virgin olive oil
Freshly cracked black pepper
Salt

Prepare:

Place the mushrooms, cap side down, on a non-stick baking sheet. In a non-stick skillet, melt the butter over low heat and sauté garlic and shallot until golden brown. Add creme fraiche, stirring to create a creamy consistency. Add the thyme, cheese, salt and pepper. Add crab and stir briefly. Remove from heat.

Spoon crab mixture into the stem end of the mushrooms. Place stuffed mushrooms on the baking sheet and place into a 325 degree oven for 5-7 minutes or until the mushrooms are slightly softened. Remove.

How to Serve:

Arrange the mushrooms in a circle on a round plate to serve as an appetizer, or use them to accompany a piece of meat or fish.

Red Wine and Dark Chocolate Fondue

Description:

This simple fondue has only four ingredients, and yet it tastes simply divine. The secret to this recipe is in the quality of the chocolate... only buy the very best chocolate you can find, preferably in bar form, and melt it verrrrry slowly to keep it from burning. Fill up your favorite tray (that antique silver one would be perfect) with the right dippers (angel food cake and strawberries are our favorites!), light the candles and savor every bite!

Ingredients:

1/2 cup heavy cream
10 oz. Bittersweet chocolate - use chips or cut a bar into pieces
1/2 c. red wine
1/2 tsp. chili powder

Prepare:

Stovetop: in a heavy saucepan, heat the cream until it bubbles, and drop in the chocolate, immediately reducing heat. Stir slowly until the chocolate melts, then stir in the wine and chili powder until smooth and well combined.

Microwave: place the chocolate in a small glass bowl and heat on high for 2 minutes.

Once chocolate has melted, stir in the wine and chili powder until smooth and heat again to combine all ingredients.

How to Serve:

Transfer mixture to a fondue pot and light a low flame, or pour into a warmed ceramic dish and serve immediately. Serve with dippers.

Experiment:
Create a platter with an assortment of fun and delicious dippers, such as the following:

• Graham cracker pieces
• Fruit slices/chunks: strawberries, grapes, oranges
• Biscotti
• Cream cheese balls, made by shaping small chunks of chilled cream cheese and rolling them in cocoa powder and cinnamon
• Marshmallows
• Small pieces of candy bars, like Snickers or Mars Bar
• Cake squares - angel food, chocolate, lemon
• Brownies or pieces of cookies

Wine Pairings:
With wine already in the fondue, why not pour a glass alongside? The dark chocolate can stand up to whatever you're in the mood for, so go ahead and break out that big, juicy Cabernet for a double dose of decadence.

People of Size... Yoga is for everybody!

So where’s the plus size Yogis?

By: Stephanie Baham

One of the first yoga classes I took was at my local parks & recreation center. I had done enough yoga DVDs and was ready for some live instruction. I took my 220lb 5’6” frame into Yoga class. I found a space near the front row and rolled out my mat. I sat down & looked around. Most of the crowd was older….and smaller.

I only felt intimidated for about a second. Then I reminded myself that I was there so I could do something that made me feel good. I did most of the Yoga poses with minimal difficulty. Like anything, it takes practice. I proved to myself that Yoga is not a skinny hobby.

So where’s the rest of the plus sized Yoga fans? Maybe the fact that all the Yoga magazines have size 2 models on the cover might be part of the problem. It’s not marketed to everyone. Therefore it appears not to be open to everyone.

But there’s hope….I’ve seen a couple of plus-size Yoga classes occur in my area. I don’t what know what kind of success they are having with participation however…as I’ve never been. Now I wonder if the actual Yoga instruction is modified….or is this just a way to have a safe environment for plus size people?

Safe? Who needs safe? I have every right to be in Yoga class without feeling out of place or intimidated. And so far…I haven’t had any problems. The instructors have never treated me differently and my classmates have always been nice. Perhaps through Yoga, I have discovered a truly accepting environment.

In January of 2007 there will be a huge 4-day Yoga conference in San Francisco. The conferences are full of classes & lectures. All the pictures I’ve seen of last year’s conference shows wall-to-wall people crammed into classes. Didn’t see one plus sized person in all of those pictures. Maybe it’s time they had some. Make room Yoga conference 2007….I’m fat on the mat and proud of it!

Send your question to Raqui - articles@largeincharge.com

NOTE: The Opinion of Raqui  is just that. I do not claim to be professional or to solve your problems.  I can however give you a real answer that may help you out.

Ask Raqui

Q:  Raqui as a woman of size I would like to ask, Do you enjoy carrying around your weight?

Bryan

Raqui:  Well I have been a big person all my life. I haven't been skinny and gained so I cant say I know the difference.  But I can say I am a proud big woman.  I don't want to lose weight.  I am happy as I am and not because I resolved myself to my weight but because I celebrate it.

Q:   Sometimes I feel that people in the 200lb range should not act like they are all that big. I have seen them and heard them and they act like their life is over because they are 240 - 250lbs. I have been over 500lbs for a long time, I have seen various talk shows with guest crying about there weight and having Gastric Bypass Surgery.  I am saying to myself "Your only 230 pounds."  Am I wrong for feeling that way?

Aquon

Raqui: Aquon, I can feel what your saying.  When my sisters who are quite smaller than me in all aspects talk about being fat. I am wondering WHERE!  I also feel that 240 lbs is not the weight at which you need gastric bypass unless your were a midget (sorry little person).  I feel some anger at people who are crying on TV about there weight and life being over at 200 lbs.  It makes me feel like they represent fat people as unhappy. It has made me feel that  all of America is watching this slightly overweight person crying about weight.  That their 40 extra lbs is so disgusting and terrible it ruined their life.  What must America think of me 6'4 580lbs.  I don't want them to think of me like that, like I might as well be dead because I am twice the size of that crying person on TV.  I don't blame you for feeling as you do.

But on the other hand maybe they feel there life is over.  and that is ok if they feel like that.  What I wish society would do is question instead there mental wellness first before they say that losing weight will solve the problem.

Q:   Raqui I wanted to know if your magazine has any information for me as far as shoes in big sizes.  My son wears a size 17 and I am trying to find some nice shoes and sneakers for all occasions.

Proud MaMa

Raqui:  Yes we do if you go into the BBW Clothing Links Section on our menu to the Left, you will find Links to large sized shoe companies for both male and female.  I know some of the links to male shoes are up to size 22 so I am sure you will find something there.

Q:   a co-worker of mine is a plus size young lady but she has some self esteem issues. I've done what i can to compliment her and raise her self esteem but she only sees it as sympathy. How can I help her understand that size is not relevant to judge beauty because a lot of skinny girls aren't pretty at all.

Love a Thick Chic

Raqui:  Well many women think men say this as sympathy.  But I think the best way to show her is by introducing her to other women who are size positive. Her having the chance to speak with other women who are big and proud.  Talking about her feelings and seeing other women life there lives happily.

In other words show by example.  Maybe she wont believe it until she sees it.  If she has internet direct her to LargeInCharge and other sites which are size positive.
